OK, this is one of the stranger projects I've worked on. It's a hand painted floor mat. Yes, a floor mat. The idea came from my mother-in -law (also an artist) who did something similar in her kitchen. My wife wanted one too.
It's acrylic on very thick canvas...varnished heavily. Yes you can walk on it:)

Wow!!.. this painting rocks!!.. Thanks a lot for your tutorial!!.. HAPPY 2008!!
That is super cool Paul!!!!so beautiful.
Hey, very clever! A little trompe l'oeil on the floor.
Oh dear, I'd put it up on the wall right away! I wouldn't have the heart to step on it...:) looks beautiful!
...your wife isn't the only one who'd want something like that on the floor. I would too, after seeing something like that! It's another 'Oh lord' and it's -beautiful-. I love the BUBBLES. They are so real, and that little frog just caps it off. As for the fish...mmmmmmmm. Love the fish!
I'm still working on that kimono project with the pine trees and snow. I got ahh...distracted. By chainmaille jewellery!

-Now- distracted by writing songs for friend's album launch. AUGH!
It's great… and you should take another picture in a couple of months.
Just to see how well it's aging.
^_^
WoW! Beautiful work!
Lovely... A well-traveled and ancient idea:

That is incredibly good. Nice work!
Beautiful. Jeez, I wouldn't let anyone walk on top of that painting if it were mine... even if it is a floor mat. hehehe
Something this beautiful and well painted just for people to walk all over . . . . WOW man . . . just amazing!
OK, I have to come clean. Yes, I painted it as floor mat, to be walked on...
...but I haven't had the guts to use it yet. I keep using the excuse that it's going to go into the new bathroom that we're adding onto our house. But secretly, I'm happy that the bathroom is taking longer to finish than we anticipated.
ah thank goodness I couldn't believe that you were actually going to walk on it.... O_O
lovely work Paul!! and happy new year ;)
Ale
What a funny idea. This is a great website (er, blog). Glad I found!
Beautiful! I love it! The frog and the fish are very very nice!! I love the strokes you use, everything looks so fresh and "a la prima"! congratulations! you moved me again :) Ah! your tutorials are very interesting! thankyou!
Paul your work is simply amazing! I'm a high school English teacher in Massachusetts, and I'm hoping you'll let me put one of your Moby Dick paintings on a site for my classes. Would it be OK with you?
Jason,
Regarding using one of the Moby Dick paintings on a site for your class: I don't think it's a problem, but there are a couple issues to discuss as I don't technically own the images; Dreamworks does.
Can you give me an e-mail address where I can reach you so we can go over it?
-Paul
Paul,

Amazing stuff. I've been a fan of yours since my days at Dreamworks walking by your window everyday before and after lunch. I'm so glad you decided to have a blog/website.
