Finally... a movie I worked on came out so I can post something!!! Yes friends, I worked on Mega Mind, and did one whole painting....which for some reason didn't end up in the Art Of book. Thank goodness for the internet, because that's the only place you're ever gonna to see this one.

Welcome to my my Portfolio Page.
This is where you'll find my professional work (and some personal pieces as well).
As always, I'm unable to post my current work, as it's for films that have yet to hit the big screen.
Don't forget to visit my BLOG. There's more of my work there, plus a bunch of other fun stuff.

Thanks goodness for the internet indeed. Fantastic painting, Paul.
Awesome!
Do you use photos as reference for painting?
Do I use photos as reference for paintings?
Of course.
lol... :D
But, I mean...if you have a image gallery with a lot of photos with different lights , colors and moods for you to use as reference in each illustration you make :P
It's beautiful. I love the lighting, the glowing clouds and glow beneath the smoke in contrast to the silhouetted buildings near us. There is so much depth. What images did you use as reference for this piece?
Ahh...
Yes, I do have a very extensive collection of photo reference. Books, magazine clips, personal photos etc. And of course the internet.
Because this painting is of a made up city, no single piece of reference was perfect. I had city reference, cloud reference, color reference, lighting reference, atmosphere reference, mood reference...
The fun is putting it all together.
Very nice!
Awesome painting Paul! Would love to see you produce a piece in a video capturing the process! Was it in Photoshop or Painter?
It's a shame we can't see the work that doesn't come to fruition. You should make your contracts so that you can release them later on for self promotion purposes. :)
oh Thx for share! its really good!
Paul,
I became aware of your work through the "Art of Lord of the Rings" books, and looked up your blog from there.
Your work on those films is easily my favorite among all the fantastic conceptual artists. The majestic paintings of the Shire, Barad-dur, Fangorn, etc... all worthy of the source material, which is the best compliment I can give. Can you confirm that you are returning as an art director for the Hobbit? It would be terrible not to see you has the lead conceptual artist on that project.
This Megamind painting is fantastic, as I've come to expect from your work. I see some NYC in the foreground and a doppelganger of Chicago's Sears Tower dominating the skyline... a beautiful, evocative painting.
wow, amazing.
yeah, that should HAVE been in the art of.
shame on DW.

Time machine back to 1989, Paul
Wow Rob,
Great to hear from you! Thanks for the trip down memory lane with the Dick Tracy Pictures!!!! I don't have any pics from that period.
I would love to say hi, but I have no return contact info for you, so if you see this, leave another comment and include your e-mail address. Don't worry, I moderate all comments before they're published, so your address won't go up.
Thanks again,
-Paul
Awesome painting Paul!!
Wow, you got to do one great painting and it didn't even show up in the "art of" book?! Lame. I now refuse to purchase said book!
Great work, thanks much for sharing it!
...(secretly still buys book)
This is gorgeous Paul! I think they left it out of the book so it doesn't steal the show;)
That figures! The color was awesome.
Hey Paul! It was great meeting you finally yesterday at the Art Center intern show. I hope to be able to talk to you again sometime soon- I am keeping what you said in mind about what I could do to add to my portfolio.
Hey Paul, it was great meeting you yesterday. Hope to be able to talk again soon and will be keeping an eye on your blog :D
You only did one painting for Megamind? Thanks for posting on here! Your work is too great to not see. :D I've seen your blog before, but also found you in the Dreamworks Moonshine book, and wasn't aware of your tracklist with them. I knew you did work on Surf's Up (Sony), but wasn't aware you had anything for Dreamworks.
Nice work! :D Love that you have a portfolio blog now.
wow, this is so amazing, it definitely should have been in the book. Your use of color is amazing.
What a beautiful image. I do wish the art book had had even more art in it. *shrug* Still liked it, though.
I hope they do more in the Megamind universe.
someone reccomended you in DA than I found your portfolio. some great stuff you got here !
keep up the good work :)
Absolutely stunning work!
This is gorgeous, I don’t know why it didn’t make it into the “Art of” book! Are there people on the buildings in the foreground, looking back at their city on fire? Either way, I love the composition of this piece. It's really phenomenal. If you have a larger image, I would absolutely love to see it!
