My family and I spent a few weeks in Italy last summer. There's so much art there - it's impossible not to be inspired. Of course I shot tons of pictures! Here's a painting based on one of them.
Once again, I painted this using Corel Painter. Though I do most of my work in Photoshop, for getting the look of oil paint, Painter still can't be beat.
Here's my lay in...after about an hour of work. One of the nice things about digital painting, is you can keep the early versions of paintings. Often, the under painting is just as interesting as the final product.

Welcome to my my Portfolio Page.
This is where you'll find my professional work (and some personal pieces as well).
As always, I'm unable to post my current work, as it's for films that have yet to hit the big screen.

That's BEAUTIFUL!
I can't believe that lay-in took only an hour! This is inspiring.
And the lighting is gorgeous. Wow
A stunning piece! The values in your indications are truly effective. I especially love the sky reflection at the bottom. You are an inspiration to us all!
Awesome piece! Only a small suggestion is that to use smaller brushes in the further parts would create better depth. But still this is a great piece. :)
I dunno, the 'depth' looks pretty darn convincing to me. Masterful piece. You know light, dude.
Paul -
Was this based off of a photo, or did you paint from your hotel room?
Matt
wow
Hi
This is really good. It brings to mind John Singer Sargent's paintings of the Venetian canals. Inspiring as ever!
One of the nicest digital paintings I've seen for a while so thankyou! I'm trying to learn this kinda thing so including the first image is very helpful
I think the coolest thing is if you shrink them both down to postage stamp size on your screen they look exactly the same. Makes you realize how important the block-in really is.
Thats nice Paul!greetings!
Nice painting!
About the place you are right, absolutely unique.
Beautiful work my friend!!!
Wow, Sweet and beautiful painting.
It is really fantastic reflection of water, shadow and light.
Paul, you are an artist! 'nuff said!
What I expect from a painting did happen here!
In fact on the first look I thought the final piece was the reference photo, haha ;-) Great work of art!!
Klaus :)

Agnes and Matt,
No... sadly this was not the view from my hotel room. It's from a photo I took standing on a bridge somewhere in Venice.
Hello Mr. Lasaine,
Thank you for sharing all your work.
I loved the settings and backgrounds in POE.
You're a master.
That FEELS exactly like Venice.
And the under painting is amazing, as it really lets your imagination "go" in that place.
Fantastic work my friend! Hope you'll come back here in Italy soon ;)
Ale

I was wondering if you could reveal what kind of brush you typically use? I mean - do you have a basic brush?
Awsome work btw - but that goes without saying :)
